Have you ever happened upon something on a social media platform that gave you pause? Stumbling across something that stopped you completely, leaving you wondering what the heck is going on here? Of course, you have — this is the internet, and social media networks like Reddit are full of hidden gems: both delightful and terrifying.
In today’s version of things we never thought we’d see on Reddit: a two-part explainer on a Reddit user who found an entire house in their attic. Yes, you read that right; they didn’t find a cabinet full of creepy dolls, not some old journals explaining interesting family secrets, but an entire house.
In the most nonchalant post of all time, with nothing but a picture and the caption, “There’s a house in my attic,” the Redditor opened up a space of endless theorizing and speculation from other social media users around the world.
If the house itself weren’t scary enough, the inside of it would certainly leave you feeling unnerved. The Redditor shared photos from inside the creepy house, and we’re not sure how everything works from here, but we hope he had some sage handy — at the very least. We can also think of a few horror movies they may want to watch before writing the entire thing off as something not to worry about.
In part one, which was posted two years ago, it appeared that the user initially found the house upstairs and did a bit of research but soon went quiet for a few years. They did note, however, that the only way out of the attic is through a small square hole, so the whole “second house up there” thing was pretty scary.
Many of us are horror lovers and true-crime followers, so if your mind immediately goes to a spooky place, you’re not alone. Calling it everything from a horror house to a murder trap, no one knew what to do with the strange discovery.
Asking important questions, this user wants to know if the homeowner checked the attic house for another house. Also, how big is this house to begin with?
When asked why it took nearly tears between the first post and the follow-up, the Redditor simply said they didn’t find a good reason to investigate it further. It’s not like they found an entire house in the attic or anything, filled with dated papers and several otherwise creepy items.
Don’t fret, though; apparently, the homeowner found out that the home he lives in started as a store, was turned into a church, and a piece of the house was sort of shut off and built around. Totally inconspicuous, right? Whatever helps you sleep at night.
The whole thing gives new meaning to those cliche horror troupes of running up the stairs when a masked maniac is chasing after you; if an entire hidden house is waiting for you upstairs, there might be something to that otherwise terrible choice.
Especially if there’s a third secret house inside.
