Walmart shopper buys a Frigidaire ice maker and heads home. Then she opens the box and realizes she brought home a roach motel: ‘Want my money back’

What Should You Do If You Find Cockroaches in a Boxed Appliance You Just Bought?

A woman who bought a Frigidaire countertop ice maker from Walmart said she opened the box at home and found live cockroaches inside. She shared the experience in a TikTok video posted by Mr Humpty (@mr_humpty555k) that has gained 97,200 views. The woman explained that she checked the box at the store, put it in her car, and drove home before discovering the insects.

In the video, she stated that she removed the tape less than 20 minutes after arriving home and saw roaches immediately begin to come out. She said she wrapped the box in a trash bag without taking the machine out and drove straight back to the Walmart. On-screen text in the clip read, “Y’ALL… CHECK THE BOX BEFORE YOU BRING IT IN YOUR HOUSE I bought an ICE MAKER from Walmart tonight and somehow brought home a whole-a– ROACH MOTEL. Like… I wanted cold drinks, NOT roommates. Absolutely TF NOT.”

The woman described standing at the customer service desk with the open box and the partially unwrapped ice maker on the counter. She pointed out multiple live cockroaches crawling over the exterior, vents, and included paperwork. She added that she originally planned to exchange the unit but changed her mind after seeing the condition of the appliance.

Serial numbers on the unit and packaging did not match during the store visit

The woman claimed that store employees removed the ice maker from the box and found that the serial number on the machine did not match the number on the packaging. She said roaches continued to crawl out while she waited and tried to understand the mismatch. She noted that she stayed at the store for about an hour and a half while staff reviewed surveillance footage.

PSA: CHECK YOUR BOXED APPLIANCES BEFORE BRINGING THEM INTO YOUR HOUSE 😭🪳 I bought this ice maker tonight and opened the box to find a whole roach situation inside. 🤢 I was NOT prepared for that. Has this ever happened to you? Would you return it immediately? 👀 #Storytime #PSA #Walmart #HomeTips #Roaches

She explained that the cameras showed her purchasing the item and typing in the serial number at checkout earlier that evening. She stated that all of the events occurred within roughly one hour. The woman said she called Walmart support from inside the store and that the call was escalated.

She said that she was told she would need to take the ice maker home and return the following morning to speak with a manager. For Walmart, the complaints don’t stop at bug-infested appliances, as one woman bought two bottles of French’s mustard and realized the brand was ripping off Americans.

She described an employee then banging the roaches out of the machine so it could be packaged for her to transport back home overnight. In the video, she said, “I don’t want another d–n thing from this store. I just want my money back.” She added that she filed a customer care complaint and planned to meet with a manager the next day.

She also remarked that finding roaches in her car after the back-and-forth trips would lead to a separate conversation. Walmart’s troubles with shoppers don’t end at buggy appliances, as a Florida customer says staff called him a liar and told him to leave over a money order dispute.

The woman showed the underside of the ice maker in the clip, where dead insect debris appeared trapped around the base and motor area. She emphasized in the caption that buyers should check boxed appliances before bringing them into their homes. She asked viewers whether they had experienced something similar and whether they would return the item immediately.

Viewers who commented on the video expressed strong reactions to the footage of the insects and the decision to transport the unit again. One commenter wrote, “new fear unlocked.” Another said, “I cannot believe you put that back in your car.” A third commenter stated, “I would have left it. the 150 is not worth the stress of the roaches coming home.”

One viewer wrote, “I hope you left ts on the counter. Heck no that’s not coming with me lmao.” Another commenter suggested, “Someone definitely returned it, employees didn’t check the box, and they put it back on the shelf. Disgusting.” A further comment read, “They’re gonna clean it, box it back up and resell it.”
