Catching up with internet slang has become difficult. And with more young people on the internet, new words and abbreviations are being created more frequently than ever before, but that’s the beauty of language and how it evolves over time. While it may pose a challenge to keep up, there are ways to learn these new words, and one of them is through TikTok.

If you’ve scrolled across TikTok lately, you may have noticed the hashtag #BSF. The videos that you see in this hashtag are either users with their friends, personal anecdotes, or fan edits. The reason behind this is because BSF means “Best Friend.” What’s funny is that this abbreviation for best friend first has existed for a long time. According to Dictionary.com, the first recording of BSF’s usage was back in December 2009, when someone made a meme about where their friends went.

BSF is more than just a BF (best friend). According to Urban Dictionary, someone defined as a BSF is a person that’s like your second sibling. They’re someone you really trust and are pretty close to. This person doesn’t “come and go” unlike the others and will be there by your side no matter what.

Essentially, BSF is just another way of calling someone your best friend. However, they’re more than that since they’re someone who will stick around and always support you. So, if you have a BSF, make sure to let them know how much they mean to you.
