Recently, yet another new format has popped up that has users questioning their own or their partners’ loyalties. A trend called “When will you break up” has circulated the TikTok-sphere, leaving users shocked by the results. So, what is this trend, and are people breaking up with their partners because of it?

What is TikTok’s viral ‘When Will You Break Up’ trend?

The “When Will You Break Up” trend is a TikTok filter that works like a Magic 8 ball. The filter predicts the future of the user’s relationship, indicating whether they will have a fruitful future or if they will be cheated on. Accompanying the filter is a high-pitched and sped-up version of Taylor Swift‘s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” which fittingly suits the theme of a potential breakup.

What makes this trend entertaining are the shocked reactions among users. Some have tried to bring their partners in front of the camera to prove that they were in a “healthy relationship,” only to find out that they were allegedly “cheating.” Meanwhile, others are astonished to see the filter claim that their partner is cheating with someone else, usually someone with a generic name.

Overall, people are here for the reactions. This trend certainly isn’t a viable reason to break up with someone, and people are only doing it to see what the app predicts, likely knowing full well that it’s randomized. There hasn’t been a single incident (that we know of) in which a couple broke up due to what this filter said. People just want to see their partner’s face, whether they’re guilty or shocked by the filter’s results. But in the end, it’s all in good fun.

If you want to try out this trend, go to TikTok, select the effects button in camera mode, and search for “When will you break up.” Pick the one with the pink icon similar to what’s seen in the video and have fun.
