A cruise vacation clip filmed from inside a cabin bed is circulating online after capturing something most passengers never expect to hear. The announcement came over the ship’s speakers in the middle of the night.
The footage, posted by TikTok account Wallis Thomas Travels, shows what the creator describes as flooding aboard the Sky Princess. Text layered over the clip sets up what’s coming: “POV: your cruise starts to flood in the middle of the night.”
It doesn’t take long for the calm setting to shift. Seconds in, the ship’s PA system cuts through the room with an announcement that explains the on-screen text. “A safety announcement. Proceed to your assigned muster station as we are fixing a major water problem,” the voice says over the speakers.
The “water problem” behind the late-night announcement
According to the video’s title, “the emergency systems went down and started telling people there was a fire in the corridors.” The creator did not provide further details about the alerts. From there, the footage cuts to a much larger open area of the ship, where the floor is covered in standing water.
Long strips of blue toweling were laid across the tiles, apparently to soak up the water, while at least one staff member can be seen moving through the space with more fabric. The clip doesn’t show how the water got there, and the announcement never uses words like “sinking” or “evacuate.” Crew only say they are “fixing” a water problem and ask passengers to head to their assigned stations in the meantime.
The comments leaned into the gap between that calm wording and what the visuals suggested. One user wrote, “Cruise ships sound like a luxurious death trap,” a comment that pulled in more than 25,000 likes.
Another picked apart the announcement’s exact phrasing, quoting it back as “‘A major water…. problem’ 😂,” a reply that has since crossed 490,000 likes to become the most engaged response under the post. A third kept it shorter: “I think I’ve seen this film before and I didn’t like the ending.”
Cruise passengers have shared plenty of their own cabin flooding stories this year. In one widely shared account, a family said they woke up to their room taking on water while they slept, without a warning announcement beforehand.
Not every reaction to the muster station clip leaned toward alarm, either. A few commenters found room for gallows humor, with one writing, “I would be shitting myself,” while another took a more sympathetic view of the people left to deal with the mess: “I feel sorry for the workers.. they probably worked their 12 hour shift then have to deal with this.”
Flooding can become a much bigger problem when the water reaches passengers’ cabins and belongings. One traveler who went public about her own flooded cabin said the compensation she was offered didn’t come close to covering what she lost.
The video doesn’t explain what caused the water problem, and the creator did not provide further details about the reported emergency system failure. Wallis Thomas Travels added that the Sky Princess had arrived in France by the time the video was posted.
