Woman experiences burning and finds weird letters have appeared on her fingers, but TikTok can’t work out what it says

It looks like it says "HELP."

A woman on TikTok has shared a strange and creepy occurrence that seems like it could be something straight out of The Conjuring movies after mysterious letters appeared out of nowhere on her skin.

In a viral clip posted by “The.OTLatina,” the woman describes the strange thing that happened to her while she was driving in her car. “My finger kept burning really bad and when I finally looked there were letters coming out of my skin.” That certainly sounds like something you’d need to call an exorcist for.

Can anyone explain this? No my finger/hand was not resting up against something. The letters were LITERALLY coming out of my skin. It spooked me so bad I thought I was going to die 😭 #paranormal #paranormaltiktok #scarystories #scarytok #spookyseason

The woman also has photographic proof to back up her claim which she shares in a second video.

In the clip, we can clearly see what appear to be four letters on her finger. It almost looks like a bump, as if it’s coming out of the skin, which is significant as it means this wasn’t accidentally imprinted on her skin by pressing her finger on something (as that would have been indented rather than rising out).

What do the letters mean?

The letters appear to spell out “K-E-L-P,” which doesn’t really make much sense. Other viewers claimed to see different letters, one thought it spelled “HELP,” Another thought it said “REJE,” while a third thought it said “RELP,” maybe that’s Scooby-Doo calling for help.

Whatever the case, it’s very clear that those are indeed letters on the woman’s skin but she can’t account for how they could have gotten there. She describes a “burning hot” sensation in the area before noticing the letters, but that’s about it. She claims that her hand hadn’t been resting on anything prior to the burning — she had been driving with her hand on the steering wheel.

TikTok tries to explain

While many were positively stumped by the strange markings, some offered plausible explanations that did not involve demons or possession. “I had that its called dermatographia and I got it from stress,” wrote one person.

According to the Mayo Clinic, Dermatographia is a condition which causes skin to become raised or inflamed after being scratched or rubbed. It’s possible that the woman may have rubbed her finger on some letters and then her skin reacted to it. The symptoms typically don’t last long and are harmless. Dermatographia can be caused by infection, emotional upset, or other medicines, although not a lot is known about the condition.

Whatever the case, seeing letters appearing out of one’s skin could make a person question their sanity. In this case it seems to have a logical, non-paranormal, explanation.
