A woman on TikTok recorded what she described as a very concerning encounter while walking down the street. According to her, a man pulled his car over beside her, got out, and then began following her on foot until she confronted him and warned that she was carrying pepper spray. As she puts it, the man was trying to scare him, “so I scared him first.”
The video was later shared to the Reddit community r/TikTokCringe, which is dedicated to viral TikTok clips. Almost everyone in the comments told the woman she had done the right thing by confronting the man. One comment, in particular, stood out: “Don’t be nice, be safe.”
After the man parked his car and began walking behind her in broad daylight, the woman made it clear that she knew he was there. She eventually stopped, turned around, and confronted him, saying, “Stop following me!” The man denied the accusation, insisting he was simply walking on a public sidewalk.
She trusted her instincts
The woman then told him to go back to his car, prompting the man to call her “crazy.” She replied that if he wanted to see crazy, she would show him crazy. The video ends there, without clarifying whether the man had actually been following her. Still, Reddit commenters overwhelmingly reassured the woman that she was right to trust her instincts.

According to the Status of Women Data organization, 1 in 12 women in the U.S. will be stalked during their lifetime. Combined with the stories that regularly emerge about violence committed by intimate partners, it is understandable why many people felt the woman’s reaction was reasonable.
That likely explains why the overwhelming majority of commenters supported her. Of course, because this is only a TikTok video that shows one perspective, viewers can only judge the situation based on what the woman recorded and described. Sometimes, that is the only version of events the public ever gets.
