A TikTok creator named Kim, who posts under the handle @where.kim.goes and lists her profile as Kim | Travel & Hidden Gems, shared a video that has gained over a million views. In the clip, she holds up a single round of raw biscuit dough from a Pillsbury can against a kitchen backdrop that includes the blue package and a pot.
On-screen text in the video reads, “POV: You’re making dinner and find THIS in your Pillsbury biscuits. What is it?!” She rotates the pale dough in her hand to display a small, distinct orange-red spot embedded in it from multiple angles.
The camera then pans down to a paper plate holding several more raw biscuit dough rounds, some of which show faint orange-yellow discolorations, before shifting to the packaging that displays the nutrition facts panel, baking directions, and the labels “Butter Tastin’” and “8 BIG BISCUITS.”
A follow-up video and online posts describe similar spots
In the caption, Kim wrote, “Well, biscuits and gravy didn’t exactly go as planned tonight. Found multiple mysterious red/orange spots embedded in my Pillsbury biscuit dough. I’ve never seen anything like this before! Has anyone else experienced this? What do you think it could be?”
In a later TikTok video, Kim responded to a commenter named Aly Mason. On-screen text overlay reads, “Reply to Aly Mason’s comment butter girl.. smh.” A silver fork enters the frame and presses into the edge of a yellow doughy biscuit resting on a white paper plate with a blue triangular pattern.
As the fork pierces the dough, a small spot of dark red substance becomes visible. The fork then pulls a small piece away, exposing more of the red filling, which the creator focuses on against the plate. There is no spoken dialogue in the video. The caption on that follow-up states, “Replying to @Aly Mason TO EVERYONE IN MY COMMENTS SAYING IT’S BUTTER… PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS I’ve never seen red butter!”
Several viewers in the comments said they recognized the spots from their own experiences with the same biscuits. One wrote, “It’s the butter, mine are like that too.” Another responded, “It’s butter. Might be some type of fake butter but butter nonetheless.” A third commenter offered a different explanation and wrote, “It’s a type of mold that grows on the dough when it’s no longer good.”
One person described reaching out to the company after finding the same thing and wrote, “we had the same thing happen to us, we reach out to the company and they told us it was just ingredients not mixed together well.” Another viewer added, “I really wish people understood food processing factories!” Kim’s find echoes another woman’s strange Pillsbury biscuit discovery that left her shaken at dinnertime.
This isn’t an isolated case. On Reddit, one user posted about a small red blood-like dot in a biscuit from a can. The post said, “No other biscuits in the can had it. It almost looked like a chunk of something stuck in it at first but when I pulled it open it had the consistency of blood and was a small superficial dot. We did not eat that biscuit… but may have eaten the others.”
Another Reddit post on the same subreddit carried the title “Red stuff in the Pillsbury Biscuits?” and stated, “Wife cracked open the Pillsbury biscuit tube and discovered red stuff all in it…. We are slightly concerned.” Unexpected surprises in packaged dough aren’t limited to biscuits, as one shopper found a thumbtack in cookie dough.
In an emailed conversation with BroBible, Kim said, “I honestly never imagined that a simple TikTok about biscuits would spark this much attention and debate!” She explained, “When I originally posted the video, I was genuinely surprised by what I saw and thought it looked unusual enough to share.”
She added, “I certainly wasn’t expecting the internet to become so passionate about biscuits! It’s been entertaining watching the different opinions roll in, and I think the funniest part is just how divided everyone seems to be over something so simple.” She also said, “At the end of the day, it was a lighthearted observation that turned into a much bigger conversation than I anticipated.”
