A lifestyle influencer said in a TikTok video that she walked into Sephora to refill a few empty bottles and left with an entire Fresh skincare lineup. Gia Giudice, who posts as @giagiudice, said she came home with a feeling that she had been “bamboozled.” Her video has drawn 487,900 views, 39,700 likes, and more than 700 comments on TikTok.
Giudice said her original plan was simple. She told viewers she went to the mall to restock products she already used, including a Caudalie serum, an Ole Hendrickson eye cream, and a Summer Fridays moisturizer. She said a woman on the sales floor began testing Fresh items on her skin and steered her toward that brand instead.
She said the woman first suggested Fresh Black Tea Renewal Serum in place of the Caudalie VinoPerfect Serum she had come to buy. Giudice said she then agreed to smaller sizes of other Fresh products after the associate started putting larger bottles in her bag. She described the encounter in a video captioned “story time.. did I just get bamboozled at Sephora.”
The woman on the floor said she worked for Tarte and was “just here on the floor”
Giudice said she asked whether the woman was a Fresh sales associate because every recommendation pointed to that brand. She said the woman replied that she did not work at Sephora. Giudice quoted her as saying she worked for Tarte but loved skincare and was “just here on the floor trying to help everyone at Sephora today.” This is not the only time a Sephora customer has felt pressured by staff, as one New York woman was disgusted when employees tried to sell her moisturizer.
She said the associate called herself a skincare specialist and told her the Fresh Rose Deep Hydrating Toner would not cause breakouts on acne-prone skin. Giudice said she stopped the woman from adding the large size and asked for a smaller bottle first. She said the toner smelled “very fresh, kind of like petals.”
Giudice said she next planned to buy the Ole Hendrickson eye cream she already used. She quoted the associate as saying, “Those are for teenagers. You need a better eye cream. Go with the Fresh one.” Giudice said the woman then asked, “I’m 40. Does my skin look 40?” and applied Fresh Black Tea Advanced Age Renewal Eye Cream. Giudice said the associate also told her concealer would go on better with that cream.
She said she still intended to restock her Summer Fridays moisturizer. Giudice quoted the associate as saying that product was good, but she should “get the fresh one.” She said she left with Fresh Black Tea Advanced Age Renewal Cream as well. While testing the items at home, she said the cleanser felt “soft and silky,” the serum felt “way more hydrating,” and the creams felt “extremely hydrating.”
Giudice said a Sephora associate later brought her to checkout. She said she told that worker, “I really feel like I just got bamboozled.” She quoted the associate as answering, “Honey, if you don’t like the products, you can return them within 30 days.”
She then said she thought she might keep the products because her skin felt good in the moment, but she wanted to see how they reacted over time. Sephora’s customer service issues extend beyond aggressive upselling, as an Arizona worker once watched a woman buy Gucci lipstick four Fridays in a row.
She closed the video by saying that anyone who wanted to “get tricked into buying anything” could come shopping with her or go to Sephora. She listed the items she bought as Fresh Soy Face Cleanser, Rose Deep Hydrating Toner, Black Tea Renewal Serum, Black Tea Advanced Age Renewal Eye Cream, and Black Tea Advanced Age Renewal Cream.
Several viewers said they recognized the same sales approach. One commenter wrote that the woman was a Fresh associate. Another wrote, “i can guarantee she was either a rep for the company or a sales associate that was trying to win a contest.” A third said the store “will suck you in.”
Other commenters focused on the return window and on similar trips of their own. One wrote, “Return it if you don’t like it bc that’s ur $ girl!!” Another said the same thing had happened to them: “Wait this exact thing happened to me!!!!! At Sephora she sold me on it too and I bought the entire line. I ended up returning all of it after a week.” One viewer addressed Giudice directly and wrote, “Why do I feel like YOU’RE trying to bamboozle ME now.”
