Samuel L. Jackson Says He Made Up That Captain Marvel Can Time Travel

It’s long been a popular theory that Avengers: Endgame will see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes journey into the past, and in an interview with Entertainment Weekly published a couple of months ago, Captain Marvel star Samuel L. Jackson seemed to add a lot of credence to the claim when he casually mentioned that Carol Danvers is “one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel.”

It was a statement that sent a lot of fan theorists back to the drawing board, but in a more recent interview with KROQ, Jackson clarified that he wasn’t being serious:

“I made stuff up. I said she could time travel one time. It just jacked everybody up.”

The Nick Fury actor went on to explain that he made the claim near the end of the day when he was tired and was just “blowing smoke.”

While the forums may need to rewrite some of their theories once again, Jackson’s admission that his spoiler wasn’t genuine might ultimately simplify the speculation a little. Specifically, the predominant theory has long been that the Avengers will somehow travel back in time using the Quantum Realm (perhaps using one of those “time vortexes” mentioned in Ant-Man and the Wasp), and the suggestion that time travel is also among the powers of Carol Danvers arguably puts a wrench in this idea. After all, how many methods of time travel can the MCU introduce before it all gets a bit much?

In any case, we’ll see just what Carol can and can’t do when Captain Marvel hits theaters on March 8th, before we find out if and how the team travels back in time when Avengers: Endgame comes out on April 26th.
