Fans of Wolfenstein: The New Order have something to cheer about, as Bethesda Softworks and MachineGames have confirmed that a standalone prequel is in development. Referred to as Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, it’s expected to launch (digitally) on May 5th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
Announced in conjunction with the release of its first trailer, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood plans to take us back to 1946 and show us how that year unfolded in the series’ alternate timeline, wherein the Nazis are close to winning the Second World War.

The year is 1946 and the Nazis are on the brink of winning World War II. In an effort to turn the tide in the Allies’ favor, B.J. Blazkowicz must embark on an epic, two-part mission deep within Bavaria. Part one of Wolfenstein: The Old Blood – Rudi Jäger and the Den of Wolves – pits BJ Blazkowicz against a maniacal prison warden as he breaks into Castle Wolfenstein in an attempt to steal the coordinates to General Deathshead’s compound. In part two – The Dark Secrets of Helga Von Schabbs – our hero’s search for the coordinates leads him to the city of Wulfburg where an obsessed Nazi archaeologist is exhuming mysterious artifacts that threaten to unleash a dark and ancient power.
The trailer itself is dark, cheesy and ultra-violent, presenting exactly what you’d expect from something of this ilk. It not only promises new weapons, but also unique villains and a rickety old gondola.
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood will seemingly release as two parts, and is currently listed with a twenty-dollar price tag. Stay tuned for more information as it develops.
