A 45-year-old father was killed by an arrow while walking home from dinner in Harrison, New Jersey. Pablo Criollo was on Kearny Avenue when an arrow suddenly hit him in the back. Surveillance video from a nearby business captured the moment, including the sound of the bow snapping.
According to the NY Post, the footage shows Criollo reaching back to touch where the arrow struck before he stumbled toward a staircase railing and fell to the ground. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark right away, but doctors declared him dead shortly after he arrived.
Police identified 44-year-old Oscar Feijoo as the suspect. He ran away after the attack but was found later that night. Prosecutors have not shared any reason for the killing, and it appears Feijoo and Criollo did not know each other.
Neighbors said the suspect seemed unstable before the attack
People who lived near Feijoo told reporters they were not completely shocked by what happened. Neighbor Cristina Pacheco described him by saying, “The way he was looking is like a devil person.”
When police went to Feijoo’s home on the same street where Criollo was killed, he refused to come out. He locked himself inside his two-story house, which started an hours-long standoff. A regional SWAT team had to come in to help. This type of tragic and senseless violent death has become all too common in recent years.
During the standoff, Feijoo set several fires inside his home. Thick black smoke could be seen rising above the neighborhood. The situation ended on Sunday afternoon, just before 1:00 PM. Feijoo came out covered in soot and holding multiple knives. After a brief confrontation with police, he was arrested.
Feijoo is now charged with murder, aggravated arson, and criminal weapons possession. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said more charges are expected. Cases like this, where killers evade justice for years, show why quick arrests are so important.
Criollo’s widow, Paula Amez, is now trying to deal with the sudden loss while taking care of their young daughter. Amez shared how hard it has been for her daughter to understand what happened. She said, “Every morning, my daughter is asking me about her father, what time he will come home.”
