Jill Campbell, a 47-year-old veteran teacher at Opelika Middle School in Alabama, has been arrested and charged with second-degree SA of a then 12-year-old boy, her former student.
The Opelika Police Department arrested Campbell on April 24, 2025, after a two-week investigation initiated by a report from the school superintendent, who had been informed by a parent. Campbell reportedly confirmed the abuse in to the boy in a text message.
According to police, the alleged victim reported that the sexual assault occurred during his 7th and 8th grade years at Opelika Middle School, approximately eight years ago. Detectives stated that their investigation “revealed evidence that corroborated the victim’s statement.”
Campbell is on administrative leave
Campbell, who has been a teacher at Opelika Middle School for over 20 years, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. She is currently out on $35,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on May 7.
Opelika City Schools, near the Alabama-Georga border, have confirmed their full cooperation with law enforcement authorities. In a statement, the school district acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations and emphasized their commitment to student safety.
The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released further details at this time. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Opelika Police Department.
“Protecting our students is a priority and responsibility we all share,” Opelika Police Chief Shane Healey said after Campbell’s arrest. “If you have any information about this case or any other crime, we urge you to come forward.”
