Dallas family demands justice after woman found in freezer at abandoned house, then suspicious fire breaks out

Many people in the area are saying that everyone deserves justice.

Dallas police officers responded to a case involving a body found on Georgia Avenue in East Oak Cliff. The 27-year-old woman’s body was discovered stuffed inside the freezer of an abandoned home — and while police were still investigating the scene for answers, the property caught fire later that same day.

There is still a lot of mystery surrounding the case. Investigators are not yet comfortable revealing what caused the blaze or even whether foul play was involved. The woman in question, Mariah Murray, is now being described by people who knew her as a “good spirit,” while others acknowledged that she struggled with many issues — but one thing they all agree on is that nobody deserves what Murray went through.

A key aspect of this case now is what ended up causing the fire. There’s a good chance that when investigators finally get into the weeds of why Murray was in the freezer in the first place, the destroyed crime scene will deeply affect how much evidence police are able to recover. Dallas Fire-Rescue will likely approach the case from the perspective of whether this was another case of arson.

The Dallas Police Department is taking its time with this investigation, and there still have not been any arrests made in connection with Murray’s death. According to The Independent, Murray’s cousin was quick to suggest that if police simply interview enough people in the area, answers will eventually emerge. The cousin said, “Somebody seen her. They know who did it.”

Another family member said Murray didn’t deserve what happened to her. A resident named Cesar Labrador also said the entire neighborhood was shocked when the news spread. Labrador said he hopes the case can be properly investigated and closed so the family can finally experience long-awaited peace and closure.

Some residents in the area were already very familiar with the property. Like many other abandoned residences around the country, this particular house was notorious for harboring crime and misdemeanors in the heart of the neighborhood. Reportedly, the property was known locally for being a place where drug activity could take place with relative privacy and protection from the eyes of the community.

One relative shared with the press that Murray lived a troubled life and that family members constantly tried to remind her that she had other options — but things never quite worked out for her. Still, they insisted that police need to give her loved ones a sense of justice.

However, one family member’s words were the most memorable when they released a statement saying, “People just make mistakes. You know, maybe she was hanging with the wrong people. Somebody had to see something, and somebody had to know something, so they need to speak up. We want justice. We want whoever did it found. Point-blank. Period.”

Hopefully, Dallas authorities will find answers about where the fire started and who might have had a motive to harm Murray. Everyone in that community is counting on authorities to show that no life can be taken without justice eventually being served to those responsible.
