David McVeigh, a former officer with the Milwaukie Police Department in Oregon, has been sentenced to 150 hours of community service after pleading no contest to charges of official misconduct.
The charges stemmed from an incident in November 2019, when McVeigh allegedly solicited sexual favors from a woman he had given a ride home following a DUI crash.
Following a DUI crash on November 24, 2019, David McVeigh, then a Milwaukie Police officer, gave the female driver a ride home. She reported that during the ride, McVeigh solicited sexual favors from her, and she complied, believing it would result in leniency for her DUI offense.
The woman did not immediately report the incident. It was not until 2021, while she was being arrested on unrelated charges, that she disclosed the encounter to authorities. This disclosure triggered an investigation that led to additional allegations against McVeigh, including a stalking incident in 2022.
These allegations were corroborated through dispatch and phone records. As a result, McVeigh was charged with official misconduct in the first degree in May 2023.
McVeigh’s no-contest plea
In January 2025, McVeigh entered a no-contest plea to the charges of official misconduct. This was part of a diversion agreement that allowed for the dismissal of the charges upon successful completion of the terms. Under the terms of the plea agreement, he was sentenced to 150 hours of community service, which he must complete by January 2026. Upon successful completion, the charges will be dismissed, and McVeigh will have no further criminal record.
Additionally, McVeigh permanently surrendered his law enforcement certification earlier this year. The Milwaukie Police Department terminated his employment in March 2023 after learning of the allegations.
