GameStop Pokémon brawl leaves one man stabbed, two men arrested in California

You could call it a Pokébrawl.

One man was stabbed with shards of broken glass, and two men were arrested after a fight broke out in line at a GameStop location in Colma, California, on July 5 this year.

Colma police say the attack happened at around 9:20 a.m. after one attacker cut in line in front of the victim, who has not been identified in the press, while waiting to buy Pokémon trading cards, and the three men started arguing.

First responders treated the victim at the scene before he was transferred to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is now in stable condition, according to a Colma Police Department press release.

The California Pokémon stabbing suspects fled the scene

According to Colma police, both suspects — 27-year-old Isaiah Calles and 49-year-old Miguel Orellanas-Flores, from San Francisco — fled the scene in two separate vehicles. According to the New York Post, the victim was conscious and able to photograph the license plates of the attackers’ cars.

One man was apprehended approximately half a mile away, and the other was arrested in Daly City, California, less than two miles from Colma. Both Colma and Daly City are in the San Francisco area.

It’s unclear if the suspects and the victims knew each other before the attack. According to Colma police, “The argument turned physical when Orellanas-Flores struck the victim in the back of the head with a glass mason jar.”

The Colma PD press release added, “The second male, Calles, then grabbed the broken shards of glass of the mason jar and began to stab the victim multiple times.”

Security footage showed the attack

Video obtained by California news outlet KRON4, shows Orellanas-Flores cutting in line in front of the victim, who was wearing a Pikachu sweatshirt. Orellanas-Flores tried to apologize. However, the confrontation turned physical as bystanders tried to intervene, reminding the men that kids were present.

Once arrested, police booked Calles and Orellanas-Flores into the San Mateo County jail on assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury, and conspiracy to commit a crime charges.

It’s unclear when they are expected to appear in court. GameStop has not so far commented on the situation.
