A severe case of child abuse has come to light in Baytown, Texas, leading to the arrest of a mother accused of locking up her 11-year-old son, who is nonverbal and has autism. When police intervened, they found the boy in dire condition, weighing under 50 pounds and covered in his own waste.

The mother, identified as Rachel Nicole Blaylock, faces charges related to the neglect and abuse. According to court and news records, Blaylock, 34, allegedly kept her son isolated for long periods by replacing his bedroom door with a lockable screen door, preventing him from leaving the room. Investigators learned that the child, who required constant supervision, was not attending school and had not received training on using the toilet. Reports say Blaylock only opened the door to give him food and water a few times a day. Some reports cite Blaylock’s age as 41.

Overwhelming foul odors and filth in the home

The investigation began following a welfare check at the mobile home where Blaylock resided. Law enforcement officers discovered overwhelming foul odors and filth inside. They found the boy severely neglected, soiled with urine and feces covering his body, including his ears and teeth. Authorities also noted signs of chronic neglect, such as advanced dental decay.

When confronted by police about the need for immediate medical care for her son, Blaylock allegedly responded, “I can’t just drop everything I’m f—king doing and take him to the hospital so a quack a— doctor can say, ‘ohh I don’t know what’s wrong with him,’ so we can see another one.” Authorities promptly took the boy into the custody of Child Protective Services (CPS) and he is currently receiving medical treatment.

Law enforcement arrested Blaylock in October, and she remains in the Harris County Jail on a $250,000 bond. Prosecutors charged her with injury to a child resulting in serious bodily injury, and she also faces at least one charge of suspected methamphetamine possession after police found drugs in the home. The investigation is ongoing, and as of now, authorities have not announced any further arrests or additional charges.
