‘My mother fought for nine months’: Arkansas mom and her twin children found dead just one day after she won her freedom from a violent ex

Where is her ex-husband now?

In heartbreaking news from Arkansas, a mother and her two twin children were discovered deceased just one day after she finalized her divorce from an estranged husband who had previously been arrested for domestic violence.

This tragedy unfolded after the Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) dispatch received a call for a welfare check on Wednesday morning. SCSO, working alongside Bonanza police, arrived at a home in the 1100 block of 1st Avenue around 9:30 AM.

When law enforcement entered the residence, they found 40-year-old Charity Beallis and her two children. The police confirmed that all three deceased victims had suffered gunshot wounds, per Crime Online.

A suspicious death after divorcing a domestic abuser

The bodies have since been taken to the Arkansas Crime Lab, where autopsies are scheduled. We await those results, but the timing and circumstances paint a telling picture.

Charity filed for divorce from her husband, Dr. Randall Beallis, back in March. That filing happened less than a month after Dr. Beallis had been arrested for strangling Charity. What makes that initial incident even worse is that it allegedly happened right in front of her children.

Charity wasn’t just filing for divorce, she was actively fighting for full custody of the couple’s twins. That’s unsurprising given the criminal charges Dr. Beallis faced, including aggravated assault on a family member, third-degree domestic battery, and two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. He pled guilty to third-degree battery in Oct. 2025.

The legal battle stretched out for months, but Charity finally had her day in court. The couple’s final divorce hearing was held on Tuesday at the Sebastian County Courthouse in Fort Smith. Charity had effectively won her freedom. On Thursday, just a day after Charity and her children were found dead, Dr. Beallis’s attorney filed a motion to dismiss the divorce case.

Randy Powell, Charity’s father, believes the motive behind the murders was purely financial. According to Powell, if Dr. Beallis were granted the dismissal of the divorce case, he would legally get all the assets and holdings that Charity had won in the finalized divorce settlement.

It’s clear Charity knew she was in danger. Earlier this year, Charity had told Senator Rice she feared for her and her children’s lives. Charity’s father, Randy Powell, shared that his daughter had told him she knew her ex-husband was going to kill her.

Randy Powell is, understandably, dealing with a massive wave of grief. He told reporters that he is facing a mixed bag of emotions. “One moment I’ll be crying, and the next minute I’m mad,” Powell said. “I don’t even know how to explain it. I never expected to ever have to go through something like this in my life.”

Charity’s 24-year-old son, John Powell, also spoke out, emphasizing just how hard his mother fought to protect her family. He said that Charity and the children were loved, and he knows she did everything she could. “My mother fought for nine months, the last nine months, to save her life and those babies, and nothing happened,” John Powell said. “Now all three of them are dead.”

You can’t imagine the pain the family is going through. They clearly saw Charity fighting tirelessly to escape an abusive situation, only to have her life and the lives of her children tragically cut short the moment she finally achieved legal freedom. Randall Beallis has not been arrested or charged in connection with the deaths, but the investigation is ongoing.
