Texas man ran for help after brutal attack by brother, then a neighbor shot him for a reason no one expected

Violence often seems like a quick fix but it can have long lasting effects.

Two brothers from Hiram Clarke, Texas had a family conflict that spiraled so out of control that it turned violent and then immediately after, one of the brothers ended up getting shot here. But the shooting wasn’t by his brother; it was a neighbor who mistook one of the brothers for an intruder and shot him.

That’s not to say that Leontay Wade, one of the brothers, was treated any better by his brother, Kenneth Jolivet. According to their mother, Shirley Jolivet, the two had a long rivalry owing to the fact they owned two competing smoke shops. Shirley told ABC13 that her son was willing to do whatever it took to “lure” his father and brother, so he first targeted her. She said, “He tied me up and held me hostage for six hours. He beat me, left bruises, and whipped me with extension cords.”

Shirley explained when Wade finally showed up, the two brothers started fighting in the middle of the street. That’s when things got a bit too violent for Wade and he started trying to get away from Kenneth. Texas has had a few disturbing stories about families breaking apart but none of them quite with an ending as tragic as this.

This didn’t immediately turn into another case of senseless gun violence. At first Wade was just so deeply injured that he started wandering around his neighborhood in the hopes of finding a good samaritan that would help him get a hold of emergency services. He was said to just be banging on doors begging anyone who hears him to call 911.

Reportedly, one of the neighbors saw him on their Ring doorbell camera in a bloodied state and although he clearly looked like he needed help, the owners of the house could also see Kenneth in the background in Adidas clothes and they couldn’t exactly tell what was going on.

Wade reportedly tried to move on to another house in the street and tried to bang on the door to get any help he could but this time, the neighbor thought that he must be an intruder. So the second neighbor shot Wade. Luckily, Wade was able to be rushed to hospital where he’s still receiving critical care at the moment.

Kenneth ran off after the shooting and is currently still actively being searched for by the police. The neighbor who shot Wade still hasn’t been charged so far and there’s no clear indication about how the authorities plan to approach this case. Investigators will probably rely on a grand jury to come to a final conclusion on whether the shooting was justified or not.

The family is believed to be distraught by this turn of events. It can’t get worse than a brother being on the run for his freedom and another being in the intensive care unit fighting for his life. Violence often seems like a quick fix but it can have long lasting effects that haunt you eons after your temper cools down.
