‘Those seconds felt like my life was over’: A woman on a trip of a lifetime in Tokyo noticed a ‘weird smell’ in her hotel room, then she looked under the bed

She screamed at what she found.

On April 25, 2025, Thai model and TikTok creator Natalisi Taksisi shared a harrowing experience from her solo trip to Tokyo, Japan. In a now-viral TikTok video, Taksisi recounted discovering a man hiding under her bed at the APA Hotel & Resort in Tokyo.

After sightseeing, Taksisi returned to her hotel room around 7:30 p.m., she said. She noticed what she called a “weird smell” in the room, and upon investigating, she saw a “pair of eyes.” Those eyes belonged to a man concealed beneath her bed. Startled, she screamed.

Takisi said in her post, “The man climbed out from under the bed and stared at me for three seconds. She added, “Those seconds felt like my life was over.” Eventually, the man fled.

“I kept asking the hotel, ‘How did it happen?’”

I found a man under my bed in a hotel room in Japan. This was supposed to be a safe solo trip. What happened changed everything. If you’re a solo traveler, please share this. Hotel staff contacted the police, who recovered a power bank and USB cable left behind by the man. Despite the hotel’s keycard security system, staff could not explain how the individual accessed her room. The lack of surveillance cameras further complicated the investigation.

“I kept asking the hotel, ‘How did it happen?’ and they didn’t have any answer for me,” Takisi said in her post. She then called the rest of her trip a “nightmare.” She said, “I couldn’t sleep and I was constantly on edge, checking every corner of my room.

“Now, I’m left wondering how someone could get into my room, how someone knew that I was alone in my room. And how can the hotel not take responsibility for such a severe breach of safety?” she said.

The Barton County, Kansas case

Takisi’s experience is alarmingly similar to a chilling March 2025 incident in Barton County, Kansas. In Barton County, a babysitter encountered a real-life “monster” under a child’s bed. Trying to reassure a child who feared a monster, the babysitter discovered 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr. hiding there.

Villalobos, a former resident of the home, was under a protection-from-abuse order prohibiting him from being on the property. One child was knocked over during an altercation, and Villalobos fled the scene before authorities arrived.

Police apprehended Villalobos Jr. the following morning after a brief foot chase. Villalobos faces multiple charges, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and violation of a protection-from-abuse order. He is currently held on a $500,000 bond.
