A 33-year-old woman from Texas was arrested after putting razor blades inside bread loaves at two Walmart stores in Biloxi, Mississippi. Camille Benson was caught and now faces attempted mayhem charges. Police are warning anyone who bought bread from these stores to check their loaves right away.
According to the New York Post, the problem happened at two different locations: a Walmart Supercenter and a Walmart Neighborhood Market in Biloxi. Customers at both stores found razor blades hidden in their bread and reported it to the police.
The first incident was reported on December 5 when a customer found a razor blade in a bread loaf at the Walmart Supercenter. Three days later, on December 8, another customer found a blade in bread bought from the Walmart Neighborhood Market.
This wasn’t just a one-time thing
On Sunday, after getting another complaint at the Supercenter, employees searched through their bread products. They found several more loaves that had been tampered with. This showed the problem was bigger than just two cases and that someone was doing this on purpose.
Police released security camera images of Benson on Tuesday, calling her a person of interest. She was arrested soon after that. While this case is shocking, it’s reminiscent of other workplace disasters that have left people stunned: such as when a grocery store employee’s mistake created an oil spill so catastrophic it drew comparisons to BP.
Benson is from Texas and has been charged with attempted mayhem. A judge set her bail at $100,000. Police and Walmart are taking this very seriously and asking customers to be careful.
Walmart put out a statement saying customer safety is their main concern. “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” it said.
“We have removed and thoroughly inspected all potentially affected products at impacted stores in Biloxi. We appreciate law enforcement for their swift action and will continue cooperating with them as they investigate.” This disturbing discovery reminds some of hidden dangers people found unexpectedly.
If you bought bread from either of these Biloxi Walmart stores, “throw it away” immediately, the company advises. Don’t try to return it or keep it. You can go to your local Walmart and get a full refund. Police say they don’t think any other stores outside these two Biloxi locations were targeted, but this is a good reminder to always check your food carefully.
