10 Awesome Moments From The Westworld Season 1 Finale

The first season of HBO's sci-fi western smash hit Westworld has now come to an end with the feature-length finale, titled 'The Bicameral Mind'. As was promised by showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, it answered pretty much all of the questions that have been plaguing us over the past ten weeks - from the identity of the Man in Black to the truth about the Maze - as well as opening up some new ones that will bug us until it returns to our screens in 2018. The result was probably the show's most exciting episode so far, and one that leaves us the future of the show wide open.

Unlike the original movie which was all about the robots running amok, Westworld has generally taken a more psychological approach to the idea of artificial intelligence. That was why it was so thrilling in the finale when things finally took a turn towards The Terminator territory.

Maeve “wakes” her allies Hector and Armistice while they’re being operated on. In an instant, they turn on the surgeons in a full-on horror movie scene – showing no compunction about killing them either. The snake-tattooed Armistice takes a leaf out of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s book by slaughtering someone in the nude. Meanwhile, Hector gives the creepy surgeon who was about to rape him his comeuppance.

It’s a shocking moment in many ways and one that nicely sets up the later reveal that the host vs. humans scenario is blowing out into all-out war (more on that later).
