10 Marvel Characters Who Should Be A Priority For Netflix After The Defenders

Since the debut of Daredevil in 2015, Marvel has delivered hit after hit on Netflix. Season 2 of that series was met with widespread critical acclaim, as were the rookie outings for Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. Next year, we'll see the release of Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders on the online streaming service, but what should come after that? While we know that the heroes listed above will likely get subsequent seasons, there are plenty of other characters who should be a priority for Marvel and Netflix as well. We're not necessarily only talking about the heroes and villains who should be given their own solo series, either. Instead, what you'll find here is a look at the supporting characters who need to be given a greater spotlight, bad guys who should take on the various members of The Defenders, and superheroes who actually do deserve their own spinoff after being introduced to audiences. 10) Hellcat We first met Patricia "Trish" Walker in the debut season of Jessica Jones, and while the radio host showed no signs of becoming a costumed crimefighter, she was still one of that hero's closest allies and proved herself to be a pretty formidable force throughout the thirteen episode series. With that in mind, Trish deciding to become Hellcat in the next season of Jessica Jones would be a lot of fun to see play out, especially if she dons a costume similar to the one worn by her comic book counterpart. Jessica could do with an ally now that Alias Investigations seems to be up and running, and it makes a lot more sense for this show to delve into Trish's transformation than The Defenders. She's just too good of a character to leave on the shelf and should definitely be used to shake up Jessica's status quo moving forward. 9) Misty Knight Misty Knight was a breakout character in the first season of Luke Cage, and while it's probably a tad too soon to be talking about spinoffs, it would be great to see her take on a larger role in this corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward. While she'll almost certainly return in Power Man's solo series, it would actually be a lot more interesting if she made her presence felt in the world of characters like Daredevil and Iron Fist (especially as she's actually had a romantic relationship with the latter). For the time being, it looks like Misty is focused of bringing down Cottonmouth's corrupt cousin, but once that's done, it would be great to see her follow her comic book counterpart by teaming up with a certain other female character closely tied to The Defenders. 8) Colleen Wing We'll first meet Colleen Wing in Iron Fist next year, and while we know that Claire Temple will be getting martial arts lessons from her, the character most definitely needs to end up crossing paths with Misty Knight and setting up the Daughters of the Dragon. As a team, these two have gone on countless adventures, though it will probably help if Misty gets her metal arm before that takes place. Regardless of how this plays out, a strong female hero like Colleen getting the spotlight is a must, and while we've yet to see her in action, the footage shown at this year's New York Comic-Con pointed to the hero being an absolute badass and standout character in Iron Fist. Chances are Colleen will meet Misty in The Defenders, but that needs to be the start of a long running friendship. 7) Blade Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently revealed that while they have the rights to Blade back, there currently aren't any plans to do anything with the vampire hunting hero. That may be somewhat disappointing, but it's hard to imagine where a character like this could fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it currently stands. On Netflix though, vampires showing up would be easy to believe, especially if they end up being introduced as gangsters that a hero like Daredevil or Luke Cage goes after (thereby resulting in them crossing paths with Blade while he's in town). From there, a solo spinoff similar to what the online streaming service has done with The Punisher would be the most logical path, and as the first two movies proved, there's a lot of potential for an anti-hero like this on the small screen. 6) Black Widow Promises have been made that a Black Widow movie will happen somewhere down the line, but it doesn't appear as if there's any real movement on that front. Given the calibre of stars Netflix attracts, there's really no reason why Scarlett Johansson couldn't take on the role here instead, especially as a six or eight part series exploring her past would arguably be infinitely more satisfying that what a movie could deliver. Marvel would need to spend some money on it (especially if the likes of Nick Fury and Hawkeye were to show up), but given the demand for more Black Widow, it's an investment which would no doubt pay off for them in a big way. Another advantage of making this happen would also be that it would bring the mainstream Marvel Cinematic Universe potentially one step closer to merging with the world of The Defenders. 5) Bullseye Season 3 of Daredevil has already been confirmed, but chances are we won't see it become a reality until 2018 or 2019 at the earliest. Assuming The Defenders pits the team against The Hand, the Man Without Fear's next solo adventure is probably going to return to the war between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. During his quest to destroy Daredevil's life, it's essential that The Kingpin pits his greatest foe against Bullseye, arguably the hero's most iconic villains. This is something fans have wanted to see since season 2, and after introducing the likes of The Punisher and Elektra to Daredevil's world, it's impossible to imagine that the man who never misses won't be next. He needs to be redeemed after the Daredevil movie anyway, and he should definitely be a priority for Marvel and Netflix in a post Defenders world. 4) Agent Carter Netflix's bosses have already made it clear that they won't resurrect Agent Carter on the online streaming service following the show's cancellation on ABC, but that doesn't mean her history couldn't be addressed somewhere down the line. After all, there are still a lot of gaps between the closing of World War II and when she helped form S.H.I.E.L.D., but it's tough to say which character she could be tied to in order for that to be further explored. Perhaps Netflix could commission a movie of sorts where we finally learn about her role in setting up the spy organization, but with her present day self now dead in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it's tough to imagine where she could return on the big screen. As a result, this might be our only chance to see more of Peggy Carter in her prime. 3) Ghost Rider The Spirit of Vengeance is currently making his presence felt in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and while it's possible that ABC could move forward with a solo spinoff for Ghost Rider, that would be much better served on Netflix. Looking at the ratings, S.H.I.E.L.D. is nearly on its last legs, but it's at least done a great job of re-introducing the character to audiences who turned their back on him after two abysmal movies from Sony Pictures. On Netflix, there would be a big enough budget for Ghost Rider to really shine, while the more grown up nature of the shows revolving around the members of The Defenders means that Marvel could really delve into the violent nature of the hero and the supernatural forces he faces on a regular basis. It's hard to say whether or not this will happen, but there certainly seems to be a big enough demand for it from fans. 2) Taskmaster Taskmaster possesses the ability to absorb knowledge and instantly replicate combat skills of anyone he observes. He has used these skills as a teacher to many super villains, henchmen and even some heroes, and while he's most often been portrayed as a villain, he occasionally performs some heroic deeds. The most interesting thing about him is that his powers cause him to frequently lose the memories of his past, and while giving him his own series might be a stretch, having him square off against heroes like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, or The Punisher would be a must. There's no denying that Taskmaster is fit for the big screen, but Netflix could very well serve him much better than the movies, especially if he's used as a big bad of sorts who makes a significant impact in one of these thirteen episode shows. 1) Moon Knight Despite some similarities to Batman, Moon Knight is a character that's never even been rumoured to be in line for a movie or TV show of his own. However, with a mythology which stretches back to ancient Egypt and a split personality disorder which makes him one of the most psychologically complex comic book characters out there, Marc Spector being brought into the fold is something which needs to happen sooner rather than later. In terms of an introduction, season 3 of Daredevil might work, though I'd argue that bringing Marc into the world of Jessica Jones would be more interesting at first, especially as that series could do with a costumed hero to appease fans disappointed that the first season didn't really follow the Man Without Fear's in that respect.
