On the ground there was a sense of urgency that was palpable as the 100 desperately tried to mount an offensive despite being out numbered and lacking the resources to effectively combat their enemy. Octavia (Maria Avgeropoulis), although clearly at a physical disadvantage, turned into quite the samurai warrior until she was wounded. She has really stepped up since the pilot, and even though her fight ended early, she contributed just as much as anyone else. There’s no shame in self-preservation, especially when you’re not given any alternative.

And, Octavia was in great company tonight. Pretty much every recognizable face gave it all they had on the season finale of The 100. Clarke (Eliza Taylor) stepped up as the leader of the group, and even though she didn’t disregard Bellamy’s (Bob Morley) perspective, her logic kept the fight from being purely a slaughter. She was able to make Raven (Lindsey Morgan) feel like a part of the team even though she was incapacitated for the most part and her prognosis escalated from grim to barely hanging on (hopefully, the medical team at Mt. Whethers has a surgeon or two around to patch her up).

Clarke also had some difficult decisions to make. Leaving Bellamy and Finn (Thomas McDonell) in order to save the rest of the 100 couldn’t have been easy for her, and it definitely wasn’t easy for fans to watch. Where it becomes really problematic is when you consider the frustrating wait that fans will have before they find out what happened to them after the doors closed. When Clarke and her posse left the drop ship, the Mountain Men were already waiting in the wings. It’s not a huge stretch of the imagination that they got their before the flames and pulled one, or both, of them to safety. Fingers crossed.

The silver lining is that Octavia and Lincoln (Ricky Whittle), and the surviving members of the Ark are still out there. It’s only a matter of time before they find the Mountain Men, or the Mountain Men find them. Either way, there’s some semblance of hope.

The 100 didn’t shy away from a big finale and in my eyes, it definitely paid off.
