2016 Premiere Dates For Agent Carter And Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Revealed

The first season of Agent Carter was well-received critically, but it wasn't exactly a ratings hit. It certainly didn't perform poorly, but like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before it, the ABC series struggled to find a significant portion of the audience. Regardless, fans were very pleased when a second season was given the green light, and the network has today confirmed when Agent Carter will return in 2016.

The first season of Agent Carter was well-received critically, but it wasn’t exactly a ratings hit. It certainly didn’t perform poorly, but like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before it, the ABC series struggled to find a significant portion of the audience. Regardless, fans were very pleased when a second season was given the green light, and the network has today confirmed when Agent Carter will return in 2016.

Once again airing in its regular 9 – 10pm timeslot on Tuesdays, Agent Carter will premiere on January 5th with a special two-hour premiere. Consisting of eight episodes, season two will move the action to Los Angeles, with the return of some familiar faces and the addition of plenty of new ones.

Here’s the official synopsis, which sheds some more light on what’s to come:

Marvel’s Agent Carter returns for a second season of adventure and intrigue, starring Hayley Atwell in the titular role of the unstoppable secret agent for the SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve). Dedicated to the fight against new atomic age threats in the wake of World War II, Peggy must now journey from New York City to Los Angeles for her most dangerous assignment yet. But even as she discovers new friends, a new home — and perhaps even a new love — she’s about to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect.

As for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the wait is going to be quite a bit longer. That’s not returning to ABC with its midseason premiere until March 8th, making the first couple of months of next year pretty hellish, especially with talk of the upcoming finale being a huge episode. Still, it’ll be back in time to hopefully tie in with Captain America: Civil War in some way, and we can’t wait to see what Marvel has planned.
