Are the infamously on-again, off-again couple back on?

In the season finale of the 90 Day Fiancé spin-off 90 Day: The Last Resort, “Big” Ed Brown and Liz Woods re-affirmed their relationship to one another, after years of struggle. The couple, two of the 90 Day universe’s most famous alumni, exchanged vows in a re-commitment ceremony at the couples’ retreat where they took part in numerous therapies to save their relationship.

During the event, Big Ed and Liz kicked the mock wedding ceremony up a notch by proposing to one another — first Liz, then Ed, which Liz accepted. According to numerous reports published in August 2023, the couple tied the knot for real, with images circulating online of invitations that were supposedly handed out ahead of the nuptials.

However, speculation has been rife online for over a year, claiming that the two reality stars are no longer together, which seems to be confirmed by recent social media posts and interviews given by the two. However, season eight of a more recent spin-off, 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, has followed Ed and Liz in the lead-up to their big day – so what is the truth about their relationship?

Big Ed and Liz’s journey to The Last Resort

Big Ed first appeared on season four of 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days with his previous girlfriend, Rosemarie Vega, from the Philippines. After a series of major red flags on Big Ed’s part, from lying about his height and wanting to have children, to washing his hair with mayonnaise and telling his then-girlfriend that she stank and possibly has STDs, Ed and Rose parted ways.

Ed appeared on another spin-off, 90 Day Fiancé: The Single Life, which followed his early relationship with Liz, who was working as a waitress at a restaurant Ed frequented. While initially a brief fling, the two reconnected and began dating as a serious couple, featuring on two seasons of The Single Life before getting engaged for the first time in 2021.

By the time of their second reunion episode on The Single Life, many fellow cast members called out Ed for being narcissistic, with co-star Debbie Johnson telling Ed that he was only in love with himself. Around this time, an audio leaked online of Ed verbally abusing Liz, which likely influenced Ed’s frosty reception at the reunion. However, the couple claimed that things were now better than it was during the filming of season two, as Ed was no longer friends with some of the more toxic influences in his life.

Ed and Liz appeared on another spin-off, season seven of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, where many of Ed’s previous issues with Rose came to the fore once again. Ed accused Liz of having had frequent sexual partners and continuously gaslit her, until they eventually broke off their engagement. By this reunion finale episode, however, the engagement was back on.

However, Ed and Liz still had a lot of unresolved issues between them and their chequered past, prompting the couple to arrive at the Florida Keys couples’ retreat, as shown on The Last Resort.

Ed and Liz’s story on 90 Day Fiancé Happily Ever After? season 8

Ed and Liz appeared on the 8th season of the spin-off 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, having previously starred in the last season of the show. This time, the new series follows their journey post-The Last Resort, where the couple re-affirmed their commitment and decided to get engaged – and perhaps their biggest commitment yet, moving to Ed’s home state of Arkansas to start a new life together, away from allegedly bad vibes and influences in California that had caused their relationship to be so turbulent.

Soon into their time on the follow-up show, Ed and Liz’s old issues — particularly Ed’s temper and control issues over Liz — quickly came to the fore once more, despite extensive couples’ therapy in an attempt to resolve these problems.

In episode 6, Liz revealed that she and Ed had split up again, after an argument about taco pasta being too spicy, of all things, resulted in the wedding being called off. In more recent episodes, the split seems to be sticking (for once), with the two agreeing that calling off the wedding was the right decision – challenging the months-long speculation that the two went ahead with their plan of getting married.

Typically, Ed and Liz are on and off again more than a light switch, so fans can be forgiven for doubting the split would stick, and the 15th (yes, really) time would be the charm. However, by episodes 14 and 15 of Happily Ever After season 8, the split was seemingly final.

In what was meant to be a final goodbye between Ed and Liz, Liz – returning from her original home city of San Diego – came back to Ed’s home in Arkansas to collect the last of her belongings and furniture, with her mother to provide assistance and emotional support. In typical Ed fashion, his comments towards Liz, as she packed her stuff, were deeply offensive, calling her bad with men and blaming her for the split.

When Liz’s mother tried to calm the argument down, Ed took a very personal swipe, stating that Liz wouldn’t be the way she is had her mother not abandoned her as a child, causing Liz to run off in tears as she left their former shared home for the final time. In a confessional, Liz’s mother said that Ed is “going to die a very lonely old man,” and “burn in hell for eternity”.

Rumors of a split began to swirl late last year, when Liz shared on her Instagram stories that filming had just wrapped on 90 Day Diaries, writing in December that “a lot” had happened since The Last Resort. Ed had also stopped appearing on Liz’s posts, only adding to speculation that they had split up once more.

90 Day fans with superior snooping skills have identified Liz’s new alleged boyfriend as a man named Jayson, whose last name is currently unknown, but is said to be closer to Liz’s age and of Mexican descent.

In a May 2024 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Big Ed confirmed that Liz was seeing Jayson, saying that they had met after he and Liz had split, referring to her new beau as a “hunk”. This seems to very much confirmed that the two had split up, and are – most surprisingly of all – seemingly good terms.

“I’ll always love Liz,” he says. “I’ll always love her daughter. I’m definitely not in love with Liz, but she’ll always have a place in my heart. She’s a part of my history and I have no regrets,” Ed told the outlet, adding that he has “no regrets” over going their separate ways.

On June 15th, Liz confirmed that the rumors were in fact true, hard-launching Jayson on her Instagram account with a post featuring a collection of the new couple on their adventures. Several pictures feature Jayson with Liz’s family, and fans in the comments welcomed the return of Liz’s smile – something that hasn’t been seen for a long time on her 90 Day Fiancé ventures.

As for the rumors surrounding a wedding ceremony, this is a little more uncertain – although Ed’s recollection of calling off the wedding seems to imply it was a permanent decision. As Happily Ever After? is still airing, as of June 2024, it’s unlikely we will get a full picture of these events for some time, due to spoilers for the series. However, it seems highly unlikely from the interviews and social media posts from Ed and Liz that they could be back together in any way, shape, or form.
