Barely 24 hours have passed since we brought you confirmation that, in line with early rumors, Luke Cage star Simone Missick will indeed appear in The Defenders ensemble series – alongside Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil), no less – and we now have the first set photos to prove it.

First spotted by Coming Soon, here we see a heated encounter between Missick’s Misty Knight and Jessica Jones herself (Krysten Ritter), with the former holding the latter at gunpoint. It’s an old-fashioned standoff, essentially, though it’s far too soon to tell how this exchange filters into the story.

Plus, there’s no sign of Jones’ fellow superheroes – namely Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Danny Rand aka Iron Fist (Finn Jones) – but we do know they’ll be uniting against a common enemy: Sigourney Weaver’s mysterious big bad. Besides, with a truncated production timeline ahead of it, we can expect to see plenty more set photos from The Defenders as time wears on.

Set to run for a total of eight episodes in 2017, when the first two will be helmed by Jessica Jones stalwart S.J. Clarkson, The Defenders brings together the finest heroes of Hell’s Kitchen, a “quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.”

All eight episodes of The Defenders are slated to hit Netflix late next year. It’s by no means the only Marvel series being readied for a 2017 debut either, with both Iron Fist and The Punisher spinoff also waiting in the wings.
