Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 To Commence Filming This Week

Marvel and ABC are about to get the gang back together for Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6. Or so says Chloe Bennet.

Over on Instagram (h/t MCU Exchange), the Daisy Johnson actress announced that filming on the truncated sixth season – 13 episodes as opposed to the usual lot of 22 – is expected to begin on Friday, July 20th.

A July production start is a little unusual given the show’s track record – Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. typically enters production in the fall – but as MCU Exchange so rightly points out, it could well be the case that Marvel Television wants to get things done and dusted now that the summer lull has opened up a gap on everyone’s schedule.

And then there’s the glass-half-full estimation: Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 6 will quietly revert back to the 22-episode template once the cameras start rolling, which would certainly explain this early production start. Whatever the case, here’s the latest, straight from Daisy Johnson herself. Also, this is pulled from the actress’ Instagram Story, and may or may not be offline by the time you’re reading this…

So, there you have it: season 6 has an official start date. And it’s a lot sooner than initially expected, what with San Diego Comic-Con expected to dominate headlines left, right and center from Thursday onwards.

As things stand, the sixth (and potentially final?) season of Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on course for a premiere in the summer of 2019, by which point film fans will be reeling from the events of Avengers 4. Word is ABC’s small-screen drama will largely ignore Joe and Anthony Russo’s MCU sequel, which mirrors the approach taken by Netflix (see: Jessica Jones, Luke Cage) in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War.
