Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Gets Renewed As Powerless Receives The Axe

Some good news and some bad news coming out of the television industry tonight, as Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has scored a surprising renewal while Powerless, which was pretty much dead on arrival, got the axe - much to the surprise of no one. Though it boasted a unique and fun premise and looked fairly entertaining throughout its marketing campaign, it simply never took off and the writing had been on the wall for a while now.

As for S.H.I.E.L.D., well, it too has gone through some tough times recently, with the show losing the interest of many viewers over the past few years. Admittedly, it’s always struggled, even from the start, and has never been on quite the same level as something like The Flash or Supergirl. That being said, it was usually entertaining enough and showed some noticeable improvements this season, though that didn’t seem to have much of an impact on the ratings, leading many to believe that the series might be on its last legs. Turns out though that there was enough in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. worth saving, as ABC has now officially announced a fifth season.

Powerless, however, is a completely different story. As mentioned above, it was a complete dud right from the start, failing to bring in strong numbers and getting panned by critics across the board. It was deserving of its fate, too, as it fumbled an interesting idea and failed to really do anything to stand out in an already over-crowded space, relying too heavily on easter eggs and nods to the wider DC universe rather than focusing on telling its own engaging story. While it’s true that some sitcoms take a while to find their footing, we don’t think that an extra season would have made much difference with this one.

Tell us, are you a fan of either Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Powerless? If so, do you think that they’re deserving of their fates? Sound off in the usual place and give us your thoughts!
