Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6 To Arrive This May

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is returning to our screens earlier than expected. After fans thought season 5 was going to be the last year for the Marvel show, ABC renewed the cult favorite for a reduced 13-episode season that was said to arrive this summer. Since then, the network's faith in the series seems to have been reinvigorated, as they've already commissioned a seventh season and have now moved forward the start date for the next run by a couple of months.

This week, the official AoS Twitter page shared a new Valentine’s Day-themed teaser for season 6 that confirms the show will be making a comeback this May rather than July. Unfortunately, however, it didn’t give an exact date.

As for the promo itself, it suitably focuses on the romantic entanglements of the S.H.I.E.L.D. crew from the last season. This includes Fitz and Simmons having the best honeymoon ever saving England from robots, Rodriguez and Mack sharing a kiss, Deke Shaw (awkwardly) professing his love for Daisy Johnson while high on medication and, last but not least, the fan favorite moment when Phil “Hot Lips” Coulson planted one on Melinda May from behind a bulletproof shield.

Though featuring footage we’ve already seen, this teaser does remind us that we haven’t witnessed the end of Coulson on the series, despite the pretty final ending for the character in the season 5 finale. The last time we caught up with him, he’d retired to Tahiti to spend the final few weeks of his life with May. He’s apparently died since then, but the season 6 trailer confirmed that Clark Gregg will return as an amnesiac Coulson with no memory of S.H.I.E.L.D.

It’s worth noting that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will now be airing in the vicinity of Avengers: Endgame, which is landing in late April. Could there be some kind of crossover coming up? Season 5 did obliquely reference the events of Avengers: Infinity War after all, but we’ll just have to wait and see what the producers have planned for us.
