The planned Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff that would have focused on season 2 characters Bobbi Morse/Mockingbird (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) is no more, according to Deadline.

After Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter both received pickups last night, it’s possible that ABC and Marvel simply decided that there was too great a risk of flooding the market if another spinoff went to broadcast. However, fans had been vocal in their opposition to the spinoff, which would have pulled Mockingbird and Lance Hunter away from the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. characters after a dramatically improved second season that they in large part anchored. With the writers on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now needing to pull together scripts for the next season, it was likely now or never for ABC and Marvel with the spinoff, and the studios decided against it.

Deadline’s report states that the pair are still collaborating with John Ridley (12 Years a Slave) on an unspecified Marvel project, now that ABC has strengthened its relationship with the scribe by renewing his struggling freshman drama American Crime for a second season. It’s been a busy few days for ABC, with the cancellation of four low-rated programs and ordering of additional seasons for 22 dramas, comedies and reality programs.

Tell us? have you been enjoying the addition of Mockingbird and Lance Hunter to the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. cast this season? Or would you have rather they topline their own series and leave Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) and the rest of the original gang behind?
