Arrow‘s tradition of aping Batman villains for its own purposes will continue into season four, as Anarky – a foe who typically preys upon the Dark Knight – will be making his way to Star City to face off with the Emerald Archer. And, according to CBR, he’ll be played by Bates Motel and The Returned actor Alexander Calvert.

The alter ego of Lonne Machin, Anarky lives up to his moniker by aiming to overthrow governments and champion social change. The character has risen in popularity over recent years, thanks to appearances in the Batman: Arkham Origins video game and as the main enemy of the Beware the Batman animated series.

On Arrow, Anarky will be “a deranged freelance criminal willing to do whatever it takes to impress a potential employer.” That employer will likely be Ra’s al Ghul student-turned-enemy Damien Darhk, who’ll be played by Neal McDonough. Whether or not Anarky will factor into the season’s H.I.V.E. plot, or face off with recent addition Mister Terrific (Echo Kellum) remains to be seen.

Arrow may have a habit of picking Batman foes over traditional Green Arrow enemies, but Anarky seems a good fit for the series, as he fits well into the grounded world that’s been created and will jive well with how much the show has focused on social and political issues in the past.

Arrow will return for its fourth season on October 7th, 2015.
