After months of grueling anticipation, HBO Max officially announced yesterday that its new Stephen King-inspired horror sensation Welcome to Derry is coming to remind those that suffer with coulrophobia exactly why they’re even afraid in the first place. In the aftermath of the announcement, the bone-chilling prequel series has been creating a whirlwind of chatter and approval online — but perhaps no other token of approval means nearly as much as when it comes from the master of horror himself.

Early this morning, King took to his official Twitter account — which has earned its own cult classic status over the last several months in regards to the author’s famed Republican bashing. This time, however, the gifted novelist switched gears from politics to television, with King encouraging his millions of followers to check out the upcoming show. Now that’s a seal of approval fit only for a King. You can view the post for yourself down below:

Of course, with how popular the Pennywise the Clown character is when it comes to horror lore, it’s worth noting that folks were likely going to look further into the project even without King’s seal of approval. Still, sharing the news about the long-awaited series is a good starting point for its success — and King is certainly no stranger to the triumph of his adaptations.

At the time of this writing, it’s unclear exactly when the series will begin production or when it will be made publicly available for streaming. But there’s absolutely no denying that horror fans are immediately climbing aboard the hype train — as if 2023 wasn’t already projected to be a fantastic year for horror.
