Not long ago, we learned that season 6 won’t waste any time when it comes to revealing those who made it out alive. That said, it’s nice to be reassured by executive producer Wendy Mericle that we’ll indeed become privy to such information in the premiere episode – in addition to learning who died.

Here’s what the co-showrunner had to say when speaking with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con:

“I think you’re gonna see both. We will get answers. You’ll know by the end of the premiere who made it and who didn’t, and you’ll see Oliver mourning. You’ll definitely see him going through a grieving process.”

So, aside from continuing to bear the weight of the world on his shoulders, Oliver Queen will face a new challenge in the form of Richard Dragon, one of several big bads to cause headaches for Team Arrow in the coming year. In the very same conversation, Mericle wasn’t shy when it came to teasing said villain.

“I think the thing we get out of Richard Dragon is a different way of approaching what worked last season. We liked that we went back to this gritty crime drama for the show, and Richard Dragon gives us an opportunity to do that. He’s from the streets, he’s a fighter. He’s more from the glade side of town, he’s a gang leader, and we’re going to use that to our advantage and also explore new territory. We’ve seen Oliver go up against a lot of people, but nobody quite like him.”

Knowing how formidable the Green Arrow’s past nemeses have been, saying there’s “nobody quite like” Dragon is a very bold statement to make – especially when someone as calculating as Prometheus is still fresh in our memories. Still, count us as being among those interested to see how the producers intend on keeping the series fresh.

Arrow returns for its sixth season on Thursday, October 12 on The CW.
