Batwoman Star Ruby Rose Pulls Out Of Comic-Con, Says She’s Devastated

The Arrowverse always makes a big splash at San Diego Comic-Con every summer, and this weekend's bash was especially important for the DC TV shared universe. Not only is Arrow reaching its final season this fall, but a new series is set to debut in a few months, too, in the form of Batwoman. Fans will be crushed, then, that star Ruby Rose has announced that she's had to pull out of the convention at the last minute. But she has a very good reason for it.

Rose took to Instagram on Thursday night to share the sad news that she won’t be able to make it to SDCC this weekend, after all. The issue is that she’s busy working on an “ambitious” episode of Batwoman. The actress said she was “devastated” to be missing the event and sent love to all her fans.

“I come with bad news, sad news,” said Rose. “I unfortunately will not be able to make it to Comic-Con this year, and it is devastating. I have wanted to go to Comic-Con for a million years and never did I think that I would be invited as a guest and speaking on two incredible panels, let alone have my face plastered everywhere – Hotel keys, the side of a hotel, in an elevator, my face is literally everywhere, but I’m not gonna be there which stinks a lot. Just know that we tried everything that we could humanly to be there.”

Continuing on, she said:

“It wasn’t until really now that we realized there wasn’t any other way to finish this ambitious episode we’re doing and create this amazing show that really is special. And we want you to love it and be proud of it and be entertained and to laugh and to cry and to be empowered. And that means that in this particular instance, I gotta work and bring Kate Kane/Batwoman to the screen and not Ruby to a panel.”

Rose made her debut as Kate Kane in last year’s “Elseworlds” crossover, which also introduced Gotham City into the Arrowverse for the first time. The Batwoman pilot will fill in the blanks of her origins story, explaining how she stepped up to the plate to fill in for her cousin Bruce Wayne five years after he mysteriously vanished. It swoops onto The CW on Sunday, October 6th and we imagine a new trailer may drop at the show’s panel this weekend, so stay tuned.
