Despite Arrow coming to an end soon and the various series surrounding it not getting any younger, the future of DC on The CW still looks very, very bright. A big part of why that is is because we have Batwoman waiting in the wings, which will be headlined by Ruby Rose as she plays the titular character tasked with protecting Gotham City after the disappearance of Batman.
As you surely know, the pilot episode went in front of cameras a while back and now, we’re learning that The CW has placed a series order – as expected. But the good news doesn’t end there, as to celebrate the fact that the show’s been picked up, the network has also released the first teaser trailer, which can be seen up above.
Granted, it’s not much, but it does give us a look at Kate Kane as she stands there watching over Gotham City. We get a glimpse at what appears to be the series’ logo as well, before the whole thing comes to an end, leaving us begging for more.
Aside from the aforementioned Rose, who snagged the titular role late last year, Caroline Dries and Arrowverse architect Greg Berlant have assembled an excellent cast that boasts Dougray Scott as Jacob Kane and Rachel Skarsten as Alice, among others.
The logline, meanwhile, teases that the show will see Kate Kane “soar onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.” Sounds exciting, and with a big hole about to be left in the Arrowverse thanks to Arrow quickly approaching its end, Batwoman looks to be just the thing The CW needs to keep the franchise fresh and thriving.
