Boy Meets World Sequel Being Developed

A whole generation of viewers watched Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) grow up before their eyes week after week for seven seasons on the television show Boy Meets World. Now it looks like a brand new generation will get to watch another Matthews child deal with their awkward teenage years as Screen Rant is reporting The Disney Channel is currently developing a sequel aptly titled Girl Meets World, focusing on Cory and Topanga's daughter.

A whole generation of viewers watched Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) grow up before their eyes week after week for seven seasons on the television show Boy Meets World. Now it looks like a brand new generation will get to watch another Matthews child deal with their awkward teenage years as Screen Rant is reporting The Disney Channel is currently developing a sequel aptly titled Girl Meets World, focusing on Cory and Topanga’s daughter.

The better news here is that both Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel are in talks to reprise their roles as Cory and Topanga, giving us a fresh look into past characters as well as the new characters introduced through their daughter. Could we also see Rider Strong (Shawn Hunter), Will Friedle (Eric Matthews), or even William Daniels (Mr. Feeny) reprise their roles as well and pop in to let viewers know where they are in their lives now?

Degrassi: The Next Generation used this same exact tactic, as main character Emma was the daughter of past Degrassi character Spike, which saw past characters return for their own story arcs. If Girl Meets World uses the same tactic, it could be a nostalgic blast from the past that original audiences might enjoy, also solidifying viewership from past fans as well as the new younger watchers drawn in by Cory and Topanga’s daughter.

However The Disney Channel visions Girl Meets World, I hope it can live up to the standards set by Boy Meets World. While not the most serious show to portray everyday kids growing up, there were many, many fantastic moments amongst all the characters that hooked audiences episode after episode.

For being such an iconic 90s television staple, I’m actually surprised it took this long for a studio to find a way to bring back the Matthews family in some capacity, let’s just hope we can get the same level of entertainment.
