AMC will be heading back to the world of Breaking Bad next February, but viewers will have to deal with the absence of that series’ leads Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. Spinoff Better Call Saul, which follows Bob Odenkirk’s conniving Saul Goodman as he rises to infamy as a less-than-reputable criminal attorney, is set years before Walter White (Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Paul) ever crossed his path.
Today, a new poster for the series has arrived. It doesn’t reveal a whole lot, but instead teases a return to Breaking Bad‘s New Mexico deserts. Though the poster doesn’t communicate a lot of plot, what we’ve heard thus far about the spinoff and its characters is cause for excitement.
Better Call Saul introduces viewers to a new side of Saul Goodman, opening on him as a good, honest attorney by the name of Jimmy McGill. Life’s not easy for Jimmy though, who’s trying to make his mark in the legal world while staying afloat financially. Complicating his situation is Jimmy’s thorny relationship with fixer Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks, reprising the role from Breaking Bad), whom he alternately works with and against.
Excitingly, Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan is heavily involved with the spinoff, splitting showrunner duties with Peter Gould. When Better Call Saul was first announced, many worried that an inferior spinoff would dirty Breaking Bad‘s good name, but their involvement should reassure fans that the series is in good hands.
Better Call Saul will also star Michael McKean as Chuck (Saul’s brother), Patrick Fabian as Hamlin, Rhea Seehorn as Kim and Michael Mando as Nacho. It will premiere across two nights when it makes its highly anticipated debut on Sunday, February 8. From there, the show will continue through the rest of its season on Monday nights at 10 p.m.
