An Extended Second Season Of Castlevania Will Be Summoned Onto Netflix This Summer

The haunted Belmont clan will return to Netflix for an eight-episode second season this summer, according to screenwriter Warren Ellis.

Proving that not all video game adaptations belong on the trash pile, Netflix and executive producer Adi Shankar defied all odds with their animated Castlevania series.

Initially hatched as a four-part gothic drama, one that largely centered on the haunted Belmont clan and their life-long desire to overthrow Count Dracula, Castlevania proved to be a hit among fans and critics alike, with our own review revealing a “bloody, gothic and beautifully realized new series, even if it’s frustratingly short and sometimes weirdly paced.”

Those pacing issues ought to be alleviated by the show’s sophomore outing, as Castlevania is returning for an eight-episode season later this year – summer, to be specific, as lead writer Warren Ellis (via Bloody Disgusting) has now taken to Twitter to clear up any confusion regarding Castlevania‘s return.

Little is currently known about what season 2 contains, other than the fact that the increased episode count will allow for a more engrossing and, hopefully, better-told story. It’ll once again feature the voices of Graham McTavish (Preacher) as Dracula, Richard Armitage (Hannibal) as Trevor Belmont, and James Callis (Battlestar Galactica) as Alucard. Fred Tatasciore, Alejandra Reynos, and Emily Swallow are also listed on the show’s impressive cast list.

The fate of Trevor Belmont and the rest of Transylvania hangs in the balance, then, and with an extended second season coming down the pipe, we simply can’t wait to see Netflix’s Castlevania series through to its conclusion. A summer premiere window has been locked in – now all that’s left is for the online streamer to reveal a specific date. Stay tuned for more.
