CBS Plotting New Star Trek Spinoff Show For Michelle Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou

This summer, CBS dropped a bombshell when they told us that industry legend Patrick Stewart was all set to reprise as Jean-Luc Picard for the first time since 2002. But a new era of Star Trek is on the horizon, and Stewart's on-screen Captain has been thrust into the center of a new story from Alex Kurtzman, co-creator/executive producer of the ongoing Discovery series.

Not much is known about what he has planned for the next chapter of Picard’s story, but it seems CBS has no intentions of slowing down and hopes to bring us as much Trek content as we can handle. Or at least, it certainly looks that way.

Deadline’s reporting tonight that Michelle Yeoh’s Philippa Georgiou, “the former ruler of the Terran Empire in the Mirror universe who ended up coming to the prime timeline and joining Section 31,” is next in line to get her own spinoff. While she’s already locked in for Discovery season 2, this project would be a separate, standalone show for the character and would “focus on a continuation of her adventures in Starfleet’s Section 31 division.”

It should be noted that this isn’t a done deal just yet, and heavily depends on Yeoh’s increasingly busy schedule. Still, apparently the project is picking up momentum and CBS wants to make it happen. And why wouldn’t they? Yeoh’s a terrific actress and fans seemed to dig Georgiou in season 1 of Discovery, so it makes sense that the network would want to give her her own vehicle where they can flesh out her story a bit more.

Regardless of whether it happens or not, though, it’s clear that CBS has some very ambitious plans, with Star Trek: Lower Deck also being announced recently, not to mention talk of a spinoff for Harry Mudd, too. It’s an exciting time to be a Trekkie, then, and as soon as we learn more about the Georgiou show, we’ll be sure to let you know.
