As part of its upfront presentation, CBS has revealed the very first teaser for the new 2017 Star Trek series. The 50-second promo doesn’t provide any details on the cast (nobody has been officially announced yet anyway), but we do get a quick scan of the final frontier, before the opening bars of that very familiar theme kicks in, along with the promise of “new crews, villains, heroes and worlds.”
Plus, right at the end we get a look at the series’ logo. If this does wind up being the official title, it’s somewhat surprising they’ve opted to go with simply “Star Trek” without some kind of subtitle – but then again, this may well be set up as a reboot of the previous TV shows in the same vein as J.J. Abrams’ 2009 film.
Alex Kurtzman will exec produce the new show, with lifelong Star Trek fan Bryan Fuller (Hannibal) on board as showrunner. CBS’s Star Trek series is set to debut in January on its on-air network, then switch over exclusively to its on-demand platform CBS All Access.
