It’s still a couple of days until the March 5th premiere of FX’s Feud, but FX have already ordered a second season from creator Ryan Murphy. Best known for bringing us Glee and American Horror Story, Murphy has turned his hand to historical drama with a show that chronicles some of the most venomous rivalries of the 20th Century.

First into the ring in Season 1 are Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, doing battle during the production of their 1962 film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? The famously combative pair are to be played by Susan Sarandon and Jessica Lange (as Davis and Crawford, respectively), with support from Alfred Molina, Stanley Tucci, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Kathy Bates.

FX must have loved what they’ve seen of season 1 (check out our glowing review here), and have snapped up a proposed second season about the troubled marriage of the heir to the British Crown  and the tragically doomed Diana Spencer. Perhaps inspired by the success of Netflix’s The Crown, Murphy is mining some extremely fertile dramatic territory in this ultimate fairytale marriage gone wrong.

For those not familiar with the details, ‘Charles and Di’ was some extremely crazy times – including Diana throwing herself down the stairs while allegedly blitzing mountains of cocaine, and Charles sneaking off to spend his nights in the arms of Camilla, telling her he wanted to be her tampon (*retch retch retch*).

Here’s hoping that Feud will exorcise the memory of the last attempt at dramatizing Diana’s life, 2013’s dull as ditchwater Diana starring Naomi Watts, of whom it was memorably said “Wesley Snipes in a blonde wig would be more convincing.”

In the meantime, this announcement only stokes anticipation for Feud season 1, which promises to be a gripping bare-knuckle clash of two golden age cinema icons.
