Charlie Cox Blinded Himself To Play Daredevil

Method acting is nothing new. Countless actors have done it in the past and it often results in tremendous performances. Fully immersing yourself in a character can prove to be invaluable, and for Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil series, Charlie Cox decided to do just that.

Given that the titular hero is blind, the actor thought it necessary to remove his sense of sight in order to properly play the part. It wasn’t permanent, of course, but as Cox told Screen Geek at Wizard World in Pittsburgh last weekend, he had lenses made that completely blinded him when he wore them.

“I don’t know if you know this [or not] but on the first season, I was trying to figure out how to do it. I went to this specialist, an opticianist – and I had these lenses made that were identical to my eyes but they completely blinded me. You put them in and I couldn’t see a thing and I thought great, I’ll do that and I don’t have to do any acting. The problem with that was that after every take, someone from the crew had to come and get me and lead me away and kind of sit me down. After the second day, I was like this is going to get really old, really quick.”

Cox’s dedication certainly paid off, as those who’ve seen Daredevil know full well that the actor does a tremendous job at portraying a blind man and really nails all the movements and physical gestures. It’s a fantastic performance and one that shows just how committed he was to the part.

Further in the interview, Cox spoke about how he’d love to see Daredevil’s most iconic villain, Bullseye, appear in the show at some point.

“It’s no secret, I’ve said it before and I get in trouble every time I say it, I’d like to see Bullseye make an appearance at some point. I think it’s a really interesting opportunity. Deborah Ann Woll obviously does not want Bullseye to show up for obvious reasons. Elodie Yung, who plays Elektra, doesn’t want Bullseye to show up either.”

The actor isn’t the only one who wants Bullseye, either, as fans have been petitioning to see him for a while now and at this point, it’s hard to believe that they won’t introduce him in the near future. I mean, Daredevil just isn’t Daredevil without Bullseye, and though we may not get him in season 3, we’re pretty confident that the villain isn’t too far off.

Tell us, are you surprised to hear about Cox’s dedication to the role, and are you hopeful that we’ll see Bullseye appear on Daredevil in the not too distant future? Sound off below and give us your thoughts!
