After Netflix cancelled its roster of Marvel shows, we’ve been hearing and expecting every major player from the Netflix side of the universe to converge with the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe films. Daredevil however, is now confirmed.
Charlie Cox returned to his role of Matt Murdock / Daredevil for Spider-Man: No Way Home for a glorified cameo, and it’s likely not his last appearance. His nemesis from the Netflix series, Kingpin, just returned to Marvel canon in Hawkeye with Vincent D’Onofrio reprising his role.
The internet rumor mill continues to expect Krysten Ritter, Jon Bernthal, and Mike Coulter to return to their roles as Jessica Jones, The Punisher, and Luke Cage respectively. However, only Cox’s Daredevil has made the jump from TV to movie so far.
Speaking to Pop Culture Spotlight in October 2021, he revealed his desire for an “upgraded” Daredevil for a potential reappearance in the Marvel mythos.
“What happens in the comics is a writer and an artist will team up for a run of a comic, so they’ll do 10 issues, 20 issues. If there was an opportunity for me to come back as Daredevil, whatever that would look like, I imagine it would be a reimagining of the character and the show. If they choose me to do it, there are going to be some elements that are of course the same. But I imagine it would be like the upgraded version of the character.”
It seems thus far that Cox is continuing his exact role from the Netflix series, and that there haven’t been any timeline or multiverse shenanigans about his reappearance just yet. Kingpin’s appearance in the otherwise strikingly normal Hawkeye series also suggests that these are continuations from their last appearances in Daredevil season 3.
The Punisher is still a hot topic to be rebooted, and with Marvel working on other edgier characters making their way into the MCU like Blade and Moon Knight, his return would not be off the cards.
