First Look At Henry Cavill In Full Geralt Costume Leaks From The Witcher Set

Henry Cavill has been spotted on the set of Netflix's The Witcher in full Geralt of Rivia costume, and you can check out the photo right here.

While we don’t yet know whether Henry Cavill will ever don his Superman suit again (I think chances are slim), his fans can at least take solace in the fact that they’ll be getting a lot of him in the eagerly anticipated Witcher TV series. Adapted from Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy novels of the same name and heavily influenced by the global popularity of CD Projekt Red’s RPG series, the show will see Cavill play the lead role of Geralt of Rivia.

For those who don’t know, Geralt’s the titular Witcher, a professional monster slayer who travels throughout a gritty fantasy kingdom putting down whatever horrible demon’s crawled up from the ground this week. And though we haven’t really seen much from the project just yet, we do now have a blurry picture of Cavill in full Witcher gear on set.

To my eyes, it looks as if the costume team are taking direct inspiration from the games, particularly the beloved Witcher III: Wild Hunt. But while the show would be foolish not to capitalize on the popularity of that aforementioned effort, it sounds as if the narrative will hew closely to the original novels.

The official synopsis says that Geralt will be encountering a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a dangerous secret. My bet is that, based on the cast list, the sorceress will be Geralt’s long-time love interest Yennefer, while the princess could either be Renfri (described as a brutal take on Snow White) or Geralt’s adoptive daughter, Ciri.

Given that the show’s deep in production, I hope we get some more detailed shots of what’s happening on set soon. While this picture of Cavill as Geralt certainly bodes well, I’d love to get a look at the detailing of his costume and see him in motion battling monsters. It’d also be nice to see some of the supporting characters. But I digress.

We don’t have a release date for The Witcher just yet, but expect it either later this year or in early 2020. As always, watch this space for more.
