Cheerleaders, submarines, and paparazzi: The ‘Black Mirror’ season 6 episode names are here

And now we wait.

Ever since Black Mirror arrived on Netflix back in 2016, the sci-fi anthology series has become the world’s favorite way of observing the concept of dystopia; at the very least, it’s preferable to observing it via Twitter as the world descends into a late-capitalist meme hell crawling with AI and NFT shills.

And before long, fans of the storied franchise will be feasting on the next wave of high-tech cautionary tales when season 6 drops in the next few weeks, and the official Netflix Twitter account has offered us a glimpse at all five of them – complete with episode titles and a few teasing stills.

The first episode, titled “Joan is Awful” (not to be confused with Ari Aster’s nightmare epic Beau Is Afraid, or so we think), seems to center on a creepy cheerleader-esque girl based on the little info we have, while “Loch Henry,” the second episode, seems to take place at an isolated cabin and involve boxing headgear at some point, which is perhaps the most perfect recipe for disaster we’ve seen in quite a bit.

Elsewhere, “Beyond the Sea” seems to take place in a submarine, if the title combined with the episode’s teaser photos are anything to go by, “Mazey Day” seems to follow the plight of a young woman avoiding paparazzi, who are chasing a $30k paycheck that comes with the first photo of her, and “Demon ’79” looks to be going full-blown supernatural horror, so it will be interesting to see how that one fits with the ethos of Black Mirror.

Season 6 of Black Mirror is due on Netflix sometime in June; here’s hoping it makes up for the wet sock of a television special that was Bandersnatch.
