In the midst of a recent Twitter thread, Child’s Play creator Don Mancini offered an update on his Chucky TV show, telling fans that the beloved killer doll is making the jump to small screens some time next year.

The thread started with the writer-director sharing some Child’s Play fan art. In response, a Twitter user asked, “When is your next Chucky movie coming out?” Perhaps the key word here is “your,” seeing how MGM already has a reboot headed for theaters less than two months from now that was created without the involvement of Mancini. After a little more discussion between fans, Mancini himself answered the question with the following response:

“TV series! 2020!”

Evidently, the SyFy series – which is currently being developed under the working title Chucky – is still a good few months away, though the project already has more longtime fans on its side than Lars Klevberg’s movie reboot. Right now, plot details are still in short supply, but it’s expected that Chucky will maintain the original continuity of the film series, with Brad Dourif reprising his role as the title character.

According to executive producer Nick Antosca, the show “is going to be closer to the tone of the first two movies in the series,” which presumably means it’ll lean more on the horror side of the horror-comedy equation. At a Q&A last year, Mancini also mentioned that the show will bring us “a whole new world” and “a bunch of new characters,” while also resolving some of the cliffhangers left by 2017’s Cult of Chucky. We’ll find out if the saga can justify its transition to television when Chucky premieres next year. In the meantime, the Child’s Play reboot hits theaters on on June 21st.
