As the praise keeps flooding in for James Gunn’s Peacemaker DC HBO Max series, comedian and Marvel actor Patton Oswalt has now chimed in heaping his own accolades onto the show, in particular for John Cena’s portrayal of Christopher Smith, AKA Peacemaker, and the impressive dance number he leads at the opening credits.
The show is a continuation of the events of Gunn’s own The Suicide Squad, picking up where we last saw Peacemaker – recovering in a hospital bed after the events of Project Starfish and its cataclysmic aftermath.
In the series, the Task Force X member, known for gunning down anyone that gets in the way of his calling of bringing “peace” to the world, is recruited once again by Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, but this time for a mission dubbed Project Butterfly.
Peacemaker‘s first three episodes became available on HBO Max on Thursday, with each subsequent episode being released once per week hereafter. Both fans and critics have lauded it so far.
In Oswalt’s tweet, which was retweeted by showrunner Gunn, he called Peacemaker “so good.”
Oswalt also commented on the mind-blowing and hilariously deadpan execution of the tightly choreographed dance number led by Cena and the main cast members of the show, including Freddie Stroma, Danielle Brooks, and Robert Patrick.
“@JohnCena deserves an Emmy or Peabody or a Nobel or something for the credits sequence alone,” he said.
If you want to check out the opening sequence for yourself, it’s already made its way on the internet.
