Amazing news, Community fans! Just in the nick of time, Yahoo has stepped in to pick up the recently cancelled NBC cult comedy for a 13-episode sixth season, due to air exclusively on Yahoo Screen this fall. Amazing news, Community fans! Just in the nick of time, Yahoo has stepped in to pick up the recently cancelled NBC cult comedy for a 13-episode sixth season, due to air exclusively on Yahoo Screen this fall. If that news wasn’t thrilling enough, showrunner Dan Harmon and the entire main cast, whose deals expired at midnight tonight, will return as well.

Community has clung to life before through several low-rated seasons, but it’s never managed a resurrection like this. Still, the fans can give themselves a pat on the back. After NBC axed the show, many viewers loudly called for Netflix, Amazon or Hulu to pick it up, taking to Twitter and Facebook among other social media sites.

When attempts to save it by Sony fell through over at Hulu, the show’s small but fervently loyal fanbase feared that Community‘s luck had run out (and just short of the sixth season mark, which the popular fan hashtag #sixseasonsandamovie had given almost legendary status). Thankfully, Yahoo has ensured that it will live to fight another day.

Harmon responded to the resurrection in an official statement:

“I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo. I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”

Leading man Joel McHale added:

“‘The reports of our cancellation have been greatly exaggerated.’ —Mark Twain (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years) # SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real. Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”

He’s right – it is the internet, and we can swear now. So I’ll add this – thank f%$#ing God Community is still alive. Throughout its five seasons, it has proven itself to be one of the funniest, most dazzlingly creative shows on television – and evidently Yahoo, as opposed to NBC, appreciates that.
