Legends of Tomorrow has never been the ratings hit The CW probably expected it to be, but fans generally enjoyed the Arrow/Flash spinoff and were happy to see it receive a renewal for season 2. However, the fact that it would only consist of thirteen episodes was somewhat disappointing, especially with the Legion of Doom confirmed as the new big bads.
Thankfully, the network has announced today that they’ve added an additional four episodes to take the current total up to seventeen. It’s worth noting that it was never the plan for the series to receive a full 22 episode order, so it’s interesting to hear that it’s now been expanded. With any luck, this will ensure that Legends of Tomorrow can do the Legion justice this season.
While it doesn’t compete with Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl in terms of ratings, the show still performs well and the decision to pair it with Supernatural on Thursday nights has really paid off for The CW. Again, it’s far from their biggest hit, but it’s definitely got a solid fanbase and makes for some fun viewing.
As such, this expansion is very good news for Legends of Tomorrow, and no doubt a strong indication that it will ultimately end up receiving a third season. The first outing was good, but the second one has been even better, especially with the Reverse-Flash pulling the strings in the background and the introduction of new heroes like the Justice Society of America.
